Assistant Director of Auxiliary - Lori Cook, OSCS, USCGR (retired)

Lori Cook was born and raised in Pomona, California. After graduation from high school she joined the Coast Guard. She attended boot camp in Cape May, NJ. Upon graduation, she was stationed on Governor’s Island, NY. She attended Radioman A-School in Petaluma, CA.

Her tours of duty include the icebreaker CGC GLACIER, home ported in Portland, OR, the Group Office in Portland, OR, and CAMSPAC in Point Reyes, CA. She met RM1 Eric Cook while stationed at CAMSPAC, and they married in 1992.

Lori transitioned from Active Duty to the Coast Guard Reserves in 1992 while the Cooks were stationed at Group Mayport, FL. They transferred to District Seventeen in Juneau, AK in 1996, where Lori drilled as a reservist for the Communications Center.

Eric retired from the Coast Guard in 2000 and they decided to remain in Juneau. Lori continued in the Coast Guard Reserves as the D17 Assistant Boat Manager. As a civilian, she worked full time as a legal secretary, and was later hired as the Executive Secretary for the Chief of Operations. She continued there for 5 years, and was hired as the Auxiliary Assistant Director in July of 2003.

In April 2004, Lori retired from the Coast Guard Reserves with 21 years of service as Senior Chief Operations Specialist. Lori enjoys her position as the Assistant Director and looks forward to many more years of service to the Auxiliary members.

Her husband, Eric Cook is a native of Oroville, CA. Their daughter, Shelby, is eleven years old. They have one dog, Rocky and two cats, Dude and Jack.

Operations Training Officer - BMC Robert Gross

I joined the Coast Guard in 1987 and became a Quartermaster a year later. Since, I have spent 20 out of my 21 years in Alaska; nine years in Ketchikan, four years in Sitka and seven years in Juneau. The only year spent in the lower 48 was in Astoria, OR. I spent almost 13 years on six Cutters – WOODRUSH (twice), PLANETREE, LIBERTY, STEADFAST and the ACUSHNET (where the Commandant waved his magical wand and turned me into a BM). I was a SAR Mission Coordinator at Group Ketchikan for almost three years and spent just under two years at the Regional Exam Center in Juneau. My time here will be the longest shore-side billet I’ve enjoyed.

I have four children; Steven 14, Devin 12, Jillian 7 and Icelyn 4 going on 35. I married Dawn Alexia Wilson in August of 1992. Three of our four children were born in Ketchikan, and Jillian was born in Astoria. We have two dogs, a box turtle, 40 fish and a hamster.

The last thing I planned on was to join the Auxiliary, but when the Director told me active duty couldn’t operate PWC’s, it didn’t take me long to file my paperwork. I’ve only been a member for two years, but anticipate many more. After retirement (OCT 01, 2009) I plan on either working for Walt Disney Company or staying in Juneau. We’ll see...
